CEREDIGION councillors on the authority’s audit committee will receive information about the final cost of Aberystwyth’s bandstand, despite the authority refusing to answer questions about the project.

However, the council has declined to questions put by the Cambrian News, instead insisting it will deal with the issue through the Freedom of Information Act, meaning information does not have to be provided until a deadline of 2 March.

But now council leader Ellen ap Gwynn has revealed that a report into the bandstand project will go before the authority’s audit committee. The leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats on the council, Cllr Ceredig Davies, asked for assurances that information would be provided to councillors. He said the project expenditure had not been included in the authority’s capital programme.

Cllr ap Gwynn insisted that the bandstand development would not be included in the capital programme as it has been completed.

But she said a report on the final outcome of the bandstand will be given to councillors on the authority’s audit committee to enable them to look into the management of the scheme.

No previous information on any additional costs for the development is believed to have been shared with councillors, despite the authority admitting prior to construction starting that an estimated building cost of £900,000 had increased to £1.2m.

Council officials claimed that it had been difficult to attract contractors to take on the scheme.
