Ceredigion’s capital programme has been reduced by more than £6 million due to delays but no schemes have been scrapped, senior councillors have been assured.
Cllr Gareth Lloyd, cabinet member for financial, procurement and public protection, updated cabinet on the overall capital programme for 2021/22 last week.
Ceredigion County Council’s cabinet heard that there was a reduction of £6.019million with some of the larger schemes delayed including a £2.9million scheme of coastal protection at Aberaeron and Aberystwyth, £1million at Penrhos waste transfer station as well as £809,000 planned for reducing infant class sizes and £500,000 at the Hafan y Waun housing development.
Also included in a report to cabinet was a £558,000 reduction in fleet replacement and £252,000 from Cylch Caron.
Cllr Lloyd said that “although the funding has been deferred as far as we are concerned no projects has been cancelled,” it was a matter of timing and not cancellation.
There were also a number of new schemes approved and the current updated programme totals £26.484million, with £4.96million expenditure so far in 2021/22.
Cllr Dafydd Edwards was among those expressing disappointment in the delays, particularly in Aberaeron, adding it was taking the “maximum amount of time” rather than the minimum, and hopefully work would commence in the spring.
New schemes include warm homes energy measures, £517,000 for child care provision, residential homes upgrading, Active Travel funding for Aberystwyth and Lamper as well as Flying Start funding and coastal protection funding in Llangrannog.
Capital receipts of £101,000 have been achieved in general and £165,000 in the schools budget, against a target of £100,000, added a report.
Further reductions would be recorded later in the year during the budget process, Cllr Lloyd added.
