TALKS about Dolgellau’s much-discussed new bus interchange are continuing.
Following a public consultation in the town’s Free Library at the end of last month, the town council received an update from Gwynedd Council about matters as they stand.
The public consultation had allowed the public time to express their views on their preferred option for a new interchange.
The five options suggested by Gwynedd Council were ‘improving existing condition in Eldon Square’ or locating the new interchange at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, Marian Mawr car park, Lloyd Coaches bus depot or near the A494 roundabout.
The clerk informed the council that there no specific update about the proposals but that the councillors will receive a summation of the public’s responses before they next meet in December.
Dolgellau’s deputy mayor Ywain Myfyr then took the opportunity to criticise the press for their coverage of last month’s ‘secret’ meeting.
At the October meeting, the town council resolved to meet with Gwynedd Council representatives before the public consultation to discuss what information would be set forth at an extra-ordinary meeting.
It was also decided that press and public should be excluded, as noted in the council’s minutes.
Directing his comments towards the Cambrian News, Cllr Myfyr said: “I myself am pretty disappointed in the Cambrian News. The fact was that Gwynedd Council had asked for no press to be present and the council agreed, you should be careful with what you write.
“And if you’re quoting me now, make sure it’s correct.”
The Dolgellau mayor agreed with the deputy mayor and said that the “whole council” shared his disappointment.
“Let’s say no more about it now, I’ve had it up to here with b****y buses,” he added.
