Ceredigion councillors are due to revisit plans to help younger people in the county buy their own homes next week.
Last year the county council’s independent group put forward a ‘vision towards creating a pathway to home ownership for the younger generation of Ceredigion’ which was supported by members of the healthier community overview and scrutiny committee.
At a special meeting on Monday (7 February) the committee will discuss more detailed proposals following work by officers to collect more evidence and develop plans with the current options put forward including shared equity schemes, ‘rent to own’, and support for self-build developments.
Included in the recommendations to be discussed by the committee is using second home council tax premiums to fund the schemes with a short to medium and medium to long term approach to administering the scheme.
“The ‘evidence of need’ for further support is clear, particularly in relation to affordability and in creating opportunities for people to live and stay in the county. Tackling these issues through schemes such as community-led housing aligns closely to the local housing priorities of the council and the Future Generations Commissioner,” states the report to committee.
