POLITICAL stalwart Dafydd Elis-Thomas has promised “business, but better than usual” following his sensational departure from Plaid Cymru last weekend.

The 70-year-old Assembly Member, who is now independent of any political party, has also stated he has no intention of resigning and triggering a by-election in the Dwyfor Meirionnydd constituency, an area he has represented since 1974.

His dramatic departure during a meeting of the Dwyfor Meirionnydd Plaid Cymru constituency committee in Porthmadog on Friday night angered and frustrated several Plaid Cymru representatives.

Lord Elis Thomas told the Cambrian News: “I will continue to represent Dwyfor Meirionnydd as an independent and in fact, I’m relieved following my decision to leave.

“I’m in a stronger position to deliver for Dwyfor Meirionnydd now I don’t have to toe a party line."
