FOLLOWING the news that a Ceredigion councillor attended less than a third of full council meetings, the Cambrian News brings you an interactive map which allows you to check your own councillor’s attendance against others’.
Attendance figures released last week show that Cllr Aled Davies, who earns £13,300 a year of tax-payers’ money representing Aberystwyth Rheidol ward, only attended 29 per cent of the full council meetings held between 2015 and 2016.
Cllr Davies told the Cambrian News his poor attendance record was because of “work commitments” which he added would soon be resolved.
Full council meetings are where major decisions are finally voted on, including school closures, service cuts and job losses, and are seen as the most vital meetings for councillors to attend.
Councillors are also expected to attend the meetings of committees of which they are a member, with the Welsh Government telling the Cambrian News that councillors needed to “attend all meetings”.
The annual salary Ceredigion County Council pays its elected councillors is £13,300, with group leaders earning £17,000, the leader of the opposition £22,000, committee chairs £22,000, cabinet members £26,000, the deputy leader £30,000, and the leader £43,000.
