IMPROVED road safety and traffic-calming, securing the future of Penparcau’s Bodlondeb care home and the introduction of residents’ parking schemes are some of the issues that north Ceredigion candidates in the Ceredigion council election hope will win them support.
Prospective councillors have been making a final push to win backing from residents ahead of the vote on Thursday with key issues being transport, the economy and local education.
Concerns that some of the candidates have vowed to make a priority include road safety and traffic-calming measures in wards across north Ceredigion, especially in Aberystwyth town centre, with the provision of residents’ parking schemes also being put forward as an important issue.
The protection of education and social services for elderly residents have also been identified by a range of candidates as key issues.
Anti-austerity group The Ceredigion People’s Assembly has welcomed backing from county council election candidates for their range of pledges to protect council services and boost local businesses.
The seven pledges the People’s Assembly asked candidates to sign up to are: to be against outsourcing and privatisation; to go out to tender to local businesses if outsourcing is unavoidable; for a real living wage for all staff providing council services; to oppose the use of private consultants; to cooperate with local trade unionists and local groups fighting austerity; to find best practice from other councils in boosting the local economy; and to lobby for a Financial Transaction Tax.
