CEREDIGION was represented by a Lampeter student when around 300 members of the UK Youth Parliament met to take part in an annual debate in the House of Commons, chaired by the speaker, the Rt Hon John Bercow MP.

Nest Jenkins, the chair of Ceredigion Youth Council and Year 13 pupil at Ysgol Bro Pedr, was there for the debate on many matters important to the lives of young people including a ‘Curriculum for Life’, tackling racism and religious discrimination, public transport, lowering the voting age to 16 and cuts to the NHS.

The Young Members of Parliament decided that Voting at 16 and a ‘Curriculum for Life’ were the priority areas for young people for 2017. Nest will now look to meet with Mark Williams MP to discuss where possible in could changes set out by the UK Youth Parliament vote in 2016 be incorporated in Ceredigion.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to have been elected to take part in the annual UKYP debate," said Nest, "and to use my elected voice to represent the young people of Ceredigion, through raising awareness and challenging issues such as transport and education."
