THE last meeting for Cllr Endaf Edwards as mayor of Aberystwyth was interrupted by his own mobile phone ringing.
Cllr Edwards, who finished his mayoral year at a meeting last Tuesday, was left red-faced after his phone rang during a discussion on the re-opening of Bow Street train station.
As mayor he liked to remind members that phones should be off during meetings.
After laughter from fellow councillors, the phone of deputy mayor and mayor-elect, Cllr Brendan Somers, also rang later in the meeting.
Councillors praised Cllr Edwards at the meeting, and congratulated him on a “successful” year as mayor.
Cllr Wendy Morris, a former mayor of the town, said Cllr Edwards had been an “excellent mayor”.
Cllr Edwards’ stint as mayor also led to £286 being raised for Epilepsy Action Aberystwyth - Cllr Edwards’ chosen charity - at a mayor’s charity day on 9 April.
“I am very grateful to you all,” Cllr Edwards, who received a round of applause from fellow councillors at the end of the meeting, said.
