SYRIAN refugees are continuing to settle into life in Aberystwyth despite “feeling the cold”, a charity worker has said.

The 12 refugees, including three families, moved into their new homes before Christmas after Ceredigion County Council led the way in accepting people fleeing violence and persecution in the civil war, which has raged since 2011 and shows no signs of abating.

Denise Johnson, locality manager at the British Red Cross in Ceredigion, said that all refugees have now settled in and are “progressing well” in their attempts to start a new life in Aberystwyth.

Meanwhile, clothes and other items donated by kind-hearted Ceredigion residents for the RumAid Appeal to help other refugees have now left Aberystwyth bound for Syria and Greece.

Mrs Johnson said: “All the refugees have settled in well to their new homes. Despite feeling the cold, they are progressing well with life in Aberystwyth."
