ABERAERON residents will face a rise for the town council portion of council tax in April while people in Lampeter have seen their tax frozen at the same level by local councillors.
In Aberaeron, councillors approved a plan for a three per cent rise in its precept at a meeting last Tuesday – raising the money brought in form residents to £36,606.
Councillors heard that the rise meant the council would still be taking in only a small rise because the council tax base is lower, with fewer residents paying full council tax with discounts from April compared to last year.
Aberaeron already has the second highest precept in Ceredigion, behind only Aberystwyth.
In Lampeter, councillors followed a recommendation from the authority’s financial officer, clerk Eleri Thomas to keep the precept the same.
Councillors were told that a “stand-still budget would be welcome by rate-payers in light of the recession”.
