SELLING off Ceredigion County Council’s Minaeron office could help protect council jobs and make better use of the authority’s buildings, the council has said.
The council completed the sale of Minaeron in Aberaeron to Hywel Dda Health Board in early May after staff cuts had led to less office space being required.
The sale of the Minaeron office is expected to lead to the council saving £120,000 a year, which is the equivalent of five full-time staff members, with staff from Minaeron now being accommodated in other offices around the county, including Penmorfa in Aberaeron, Canolfan Rheidol in Aberystwyth and Awel Deg in Llandysul.
A council spokesperson said the sale of a council building had been considered necessary because of the number of surplus places and Minaeron had attracted the most interest with Hywel Dda looking for a facility in Aberaeron.
The spokesperson said: “Surplus places in the council’s office buildings across the county due to a reduction in the number of staff meant that these spaces needed to be reconfigured more efficiently.
“The sale of Minaeron was the catalyst in relocating a number of services and teams to alternative locations across the county in order to utilise the spare capacity within office space available."
