CARDIGAN Swimming Pool remains in urgent need of strong public support despite securing a potential cash lifeline last year.

That was the resounding message to emerge from a recent public meeting aimed at updating the public on the facility’s ongoing battle for survival as well as gleaning feedback from users.

Back in October, pool trustees were jubilant upon learning they had won the regional final of a national competition by a handful of votes following a “massive” community response from the town.

Victory saw them secure £12,500 from the M&S Energy Fund to install solar PV and slash running costs.

But campaigners insisted this week that the fight to remain afloat was still far from over.

“Securing those solar panels does not make any difference to the financial troubles that we face,” trustee Sharon Griffiths told the Cambrian News.

“The fact is we still need continuing support.

“I would say 90 per cent of the feedback we received was positive. Yes, we are aware there is a cleanliness issue which can – and will – be resolved.

“The key message to come out of the meeting is it’s important word gets out that we continue to need the help and support of people from across the community.”
