MACHYNLLETH volunteers will open a pop-up information shop in the town in support of the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe.

The shop will open today, Wednesday, 18 November, at the former church charity shop.

Organised by residents Rosie Strickland, Sarah Reisz, Barry Wise, Rosie Strickland and Daniel Gifford, the Take Down The Barriers info shop aims to help share information on refugees in Europe and how people can help.

The pop-up shop idea comes after Sarah and Barry travelled to Hungary in September after successfully raising £2,000 via JustGiving from their friends and local community.

The money was donated to Migration Aid - one of the small volunteer-run organisations working on the front line in Hungary providing essential aid and food for refugees stuck at the border there.

Fellow Take Down the Barriers organisers Rosie and Dan travelled to Calais on the August Bank Holiday with a group of friends from Machynlleth with a donation of bikes, sleeping bags, clothes and other useful items.
