THE Polish vice-consul has praised the Aberystwyth Polish Community Group after she attended a special Polish Heritage Day.
Yr Hwb in Penparcau celebrated Polish Heritage Day with a special event including Polish music and a traditional Polish barbecue, as well as entertainment for children, including a special prize for anyone wearing the red and white colours of Poland.
Barbara Armatys, the vice-consul from the Polish General Consulate in Manchester was a special guest at the event, alongside former Aberystwyth mayor Steve Davies, and praised the organisers for helping everyone to celebrate the special event.
She said: “I am very happy that I can see so many Polish people happy, having fun and integrating with the local community.”
Speaking before the event, one of the organisers Dagmara Gasior, said: “This is the biggest Polish Heritage Day celebration in Wales outside of Cardiff but even so we were surprised and delighted to be informed just a day or so ago that Vice-Consul Armatys would be attending.”
As well as hosting the event, Yr Hwb also hosts regular meetings for Polish families.
Co-ordinator Bryn Jones said: “Penparcau Community Forum is happy to play a part in this. The whole purpose of Yr Hwb is to offer a resource for the whole community to be able to come together and integration is the key message.
“We hope to be able to provide an inclusive and supportive environment to provide opportunity for the Polish community in Aberystwyth to continue to integrate, enriching the community at large.”
