FANS of the 60s cult show, The Prisoner, will descend onto Portmeirion this weekend for their annual convention.
The Six of One, the Prisoner Appreciation Society, will mark the 50th anniversary of the filming of the TV show starring Patrick McGoohan at “The Village”.
It is also the year that Portmeirion itself celebrates its 90th birthday. PortmeiriCon 2016 promises to be another great event with our VIP guest Denise Buckley, appearing for Six of One for the first time.
Denise played the cheeky maid and later a judge in the episode ‘Dance of the Dead’. There will be the usual colourful outdoor re-enactments of the election parade from the episode ‘Free for All’ and the human chess match from the episode ‘Checkmate’.
Rover will also be making an appearance (the menacing giant white balloon).
The Village will again be brought to life with many props and of course ‘Village Radio’ with music and announcements adding to the atmosphere and transporting Portmeirion back in time to the 1960’s series look and feel of the series.
This year there will be a 3D Prisoner sound-scape under the Bridge House archway, which has been created by Martyn Ware of Heaven 17 fame. Martyn’s sound-scape has featured in the previous two Festival Number 6 music festivals held in Portmeirion each September.
Actor and author Brian Gorman is performing another of his Prisoner inspired plays and also promoting his new book ‘Everyman’ which is a graphic novel about Patrick McGoohan who was the star and driving force behind ‘the Prisoner’.
There are many other Prisoner related items during the weekend, including a prisoner “Brain Bash”, a touring theatre and much, much more.
Indoor events are restricted to members only, but there will be plenty to see and experience outdoors for members of the visiting public.
