A senior manager is believed to have lost his job at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth after a complaint that he used CCTV cameras to follow a female member of staff around the building.
The Information Commissioner’s office, which is responsible for enforcing rules on the use of CCTV systems, confirmed that it was looking into the claims.
A source told the Cambrian News there had been a complaint made by a member of staff regarding the behaviour of the senior manager and that library chiefs had initially suspended him to allow an investigation to take place.
Since then, he said the manager was no longer working at the library.
It is understood that while the library did report the incident to the ICO, it did not do so immediately, raising data security concerns.
Operators of CCTV systems have to meet the necessary requirements under the rules, for gathering, storage and release of images of individuals. Action could be taken by the ICO if it is found that the National Library was not adhering to those rules.
A spokesperson for the ICO said: “The National Library of Wales has reported this incident to us and we are making enquiries.”
The National Library declined to comment.
