A PROMINENT former Aberystwyth councillor and well-known angler has died aged 81.
Peredur Eklund, who stood down as a Ceredigion councillor ahead of the 2008 election, was the council’s education Cabinet member and also served as the secretary of Aberystwyth Angling Association until he retired in 2010.
Mr Eklund was a prominent Liberal Democrat councillor who represented Waunfawr on both Dyfed and Ceredigion councils.
He died on Monday, 4 January.
Mr Eklund’s son Dylan said the family had been grateful for the support shown locally.
He said: “As a family we have been overwhelmed by the support shown by friends, neighbours and the local community, something which is of great comfort at this difficult time.
“It is clear from the reaction to his passing that my father was well thought of and his efforts appreciated by those who he sought to help over the past 50 years."
Ceredigion MP Mark Williams also paid tribute to fellow Welsh Liberal Democrat Mr Eklund’s work.
