LLANBEDR Community Centre has been transformed thanks to a grant of £10,000 from the largest housing association in north Wales, Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd’s Community Investment Fund.

In addition to the grant, a new kitchen was fitted in the centre for free by CCG contractors Gareth Morris Construction. GMC have built 12 new houses on behalf of CCG at Wenallt Uchaf, Dolgellau and this work is one of the community benefits generated from the contract.

Iolyn Jones from the centre’s committee, said: “The condition of the building was causing us problems and it was deteriorating from year to year resulting in less use being made of the centre.

“After receiving this money from CCG, and other substantial grants from the Lottery and others, the community centre has been expanded to create more rooms, a new kitchen and improve the condition of the original building.

“The hall can now split in two and can offer people the use of a projector and large screen for meeting and film nights. A training room has also been created which offers IT facilities. Access to the centre is also now suitable for disabled people, and a new disabled toilet has been fitted.

“We have already received a number of enquiries to hire the centre and we are confident that the community will be making much more use of the new building in future.

“We are very happy with the standard of the work by GMC and how easy it was to arrange, and would like to thank them and thank CCG for their financial support.”

Llanbedr Community Centre is a charity which is managed by trustees, and a committee was been set up to improve the facilities and resources in the village.
