Let them drink nice coffee!

In a gesture that Marie Antoinette would have been proud of, Gwynedd’s Plaid Cymru Council leader has justified spending our limited cash on a posh coffee machine, saying: “Access to decent coffee was the minimum people deserve”. I can think of a few council staff and ex-council staff that I know who would disagree with him. Staff who lost their jobs when his councillors closed the Barmouth Tourist Information Office would think a safe job in their own community is “the minimum people deserve”.

Although the coffee machine costs a relatively small amount compared with the massive cuts this council is making, it is on a long list of wasteful spending that the council is happy to justify. When the county council has cut out this type of waste then it can think about cuts in jobs and services and not before.
