A CAMPAIGN to revamp the skate park in Tywyn has been stepped up, with the creation of an online fundraising page with a target of £250,000.
The fundraiser has been set up by local resident Jonathan Kendall, who believes it is important that the park is revamped.
A fundraiser page was initially set up by Tywyn Town councillor Marisa O’Hara. It has raised £600 so far.
The skate park, on Cambrian Road, is popular with locals and visitors of all ages.
Jonathan said: “The original Tywyn skate park is made of metal and has fallen in to a state of disrepair.
“We want to raise £250,000 to create a brand new concrete park with a pump track and skills area.
“Tywyn skate park attracts people from all over the country, giving young children and adults a chance to adopt new skills or maybe try a new hobby Tywyn Skate Park (Y Rec) needs your support to make this happen.”
Raising awareness of the fundraising campaign is just as important as donating money.
Jonathan added: “It’s not all about money either. If you can’t afford to donate please help us by sharing the fundraiser and spread the word.”
Kelly Ashfield’s son, Tom, enjoys using the park when her family visit from England.
She is happy to see support for the project flood in.
Kelly said: “It’s so fantastic to see the continued support from the community locals and further afield.
“It makes me happy and more so my son happy to see everyone rallying together to get Tywyn skate park sorted for our kids!”
Cllr Marisa O’Hara said of the latest fudnraising effort: “It’s great. The more support the better. The one I set up is still running and Matthew Cooling has done QR codes that link to it on posters.”
