THE race is on to save a beloved old shed near Llanon before it is lost to the sea.

The community has joined Rachel Jones and her husband Greg in their efforts to raise £3,000 to rebuild the shed at Llansantffraed, which was built in the 1930s by the Lloyd family of Roseland, Llanon.

The shed, which was bequeathed to the community council in 2000 along with £1,000 for its upkeep, has various names, including the summer house, beach hut or fisherman’s shed, and is used as a shelter and meeting point by dog walkers, hikers, artists and photographers.

But since Rachel and Greg, who have six children between them and moved to Llansantffraed from Newtown two years ago, had their dream wedding here last September, the seas of Cardigan Bay are threatening to claim the shed and the couple are in a race to save it.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Rachel said: “It is so perilously close to the edge that if the coastal erosion carries on, the shed will be lost to the sea in a few years’ time.

“The shed has stood proudly and unmoved for around 90 years, holding history and memories that will be lost forever if it is not saved."
