The Proms came to shore last week with a special event to raise money for the Pwllheli RNLI Boathouse Appeal.

The event was organised by Paul Wilson MBE, the conductor of the Royal Oakeley Silver Band who were the star attraction on the night.

The Blaenau Ffestiniog-based band were accompanied by friends from bands in Holywell, Pwllheli, Trefor and Llanrug as well as special guest Barrie Grayson who sang a few songs during the bands’ break and closed the Proms finale, with everyone waving their Welsh flags in the audience.

A crowd of approximately 1,000 attended the evening of fantastic music which resulted in a sum of £3,000 being raised.

This sum joins the £1,100 raise at a jazz evening also held at Abererch Sands earlier this year, bringing the total raised for the appeal so far to £4,100.

Mr Wilson said: “I would like to thank everybody involved in these two separate events: all the various bands members, musicians, singers, volunteers who helped in anyway.

“The Pwllheli Sea Cadets need a big thank you as they were in charge of the parking, bucket donation and litter-picking the site.

“Finally, thank you to the Proms by the Beach’s two main sponsors: Abererch Sands and The Little Tea Rooms.”

It is hoped a similar event will be organised next year with the proceeds going to the Wales Air Ambulance.
