An Aberaeron charity which was on the brink of folding four months ago has had its short-term future secured by a huge Lottery grant.

RAY Ceredigion, which was originally founded to help young people before evolving into an organisation supporting all ages, learnt this week it had succeeded in landing a grant of nearly £400,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The money will fund the development of the centre, focusing on those who are most isolated to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

The grant will enable the opening of the first family centre in Aberaeron, which will seek to enable families to build peer support and attend activities to develop their skills.

Activities for young people with disabilities will be expanded, and the youth project, which supports young people to cope with adverse childhood experiences, will be extended to include the eight to 10 age group

The £393,397 grant, spread over three years, will also fund salaries and running costs.

Manager Gill Byrne said the grant was the largest ever received for a ‘standalone’ RAY Ceredigion project.
