THE Welsh Government is to provide £40,000 of investment in order to vastly improve pedestrian safety on the notoriously steep Rhiwgoch hill at Aberaeron.

Following calls from AM Elin Jones, Ciliau Aeron county councillor John Lumley and Aberaeron Town Council, Cardiff Bay has pledged to install a £40,000 footway link between Rhiwgoch and Aberaeron.

Town councillors have repeatedly expressed safety concerns about the hill which many residents – including schoolchildren – use as a short cut into town.

But now a move to build a pavement has been confirmed in a statement summarising Local Transport Grant Allocations by the Welsh Government’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Ken Skates.

“This funding will go a long way towards improving pedestrian safety in Rhiwgoch, and in helping children in the area get safely to their schools," said Elin Jones AM.
