LAMPETER Town Council has backed the second phase of a scheme aimed at boosting pedestrian routes in the town after agreeing to contribute over £6,000 toward the work.

The first phase of the Lampeter Safe Routes in Communities project is almost complete, with a new bike and scooter shelter expected to be completed at Ysgol Bro Pedr shortly.

Cllr Hag Harris, the deputy mayor of Lampeter and a Ceredigion County Council councillor, said he was pleased that the town council had agreed to provide funding toward the second phase of the work and said it would be a boost to pedestrians and cyclists in Lampeter.

The town council has agreed to fund 10 per cent, around £6,200, of the total project cost with the contribution capped so that if the cost increases the council will not be asked to pay any more, but would pay less toward the scheme if it is completed under budget.

Cllr Harris said: “I was delighted that we, as Lampeter Town Council, were able to support financially the next stage of the Lampeter Safe Routes in Communities project led by Ceredigion County Council and Welsh Government.

“The first phase is reaching completion with the construction of a new bike shelter and scooter shelter at Bro Pedr School. The traffic-calming measures in Peterwell Terrace and New Street along with the 20mph limit have been welcomed by residents. I have received very little negative feedback.”

The second phase of the scheme will see improved and new pavements, with a public consultation being held into the plans when they’ve been drawn up.
