SOCIAL projects in Dwyfor and Meirionnydd benefitted from substantial cash injections in a bid to reduce to impact of Trawsfynydd’s power plant closure.

Magnox, who in charge of decommissioning the site, spent £600,000 in funding last year across the UK as part of their socioeconomic policy.

The scheme aims to help build sustainable communities around former nuclear power stations, and mitigate the impact decommissioning those sites has on the surrounding communities.

During 2016, Magnox supported 22 projects near Trawsfynydd Site, notably supplying the marquees for the popular Rock Ardudwy music festival and installing new IT facilities in Llanbedr Village Hall.

Other organisations also benefitted, including Tremadog Snooker Club, Bro Ffestiniog Archaeology Society, Blaenau Ffestiniog’s Vintage 40’s Day and Fairbourne Bowling Club.
