A COMMUNITY project to rebuild a park has been given a massive cash boost.
The play area in Edern was closed in 2012 after it was deemed unsafe and ever since then the local community has rallied to reopen a safer, better play area for children in the area.
The campaign was given a huge boost this week with the news that it had been successful in securing a grant for nearly £87,000 from the National Lottery.
The park on the playing fields in Edern was condemned and shut down following a report by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, which deemed the facilities to be unsafe in 2012.
A committee was set up following the closure, with nine members who have worked tirelessly over the past seven years, each with a different role, and faced several obstacles, describing the project as a labour of love and a challenge and a half.
Work on cleaning the site began last year, with tree clearing, landscaping and stone clearing.
The group has also installed a safety fence, a track and picnic tables around the playing fields, thanks to a grant from AHNE Llyn.
Now, the group have learnt their application for grant aid from the National Lottery Fund was successful and they have been awarded £86,944.
The committee is now in the process of ordering the new equipment, which should be in place in time for the summer.
