PUB regulars have raised thousands of pounds for Cardigan Cancer Care.
Regulars at the historic “hanging pub” Penllwyndu in Llangoedmor forged ahead with fundraising efforts under the guidance of Stephanie Williams, who lost her husband to cancer.
Efforts to raise money began with a Summer Ball, starring winner of the 2016 Porthcawl Elvis Festival, Elvis Desley, who was joined on stage by Cardigan Rugby Club Choir.
Other stars of the ball included Nia Porter who had her hair cut off - each cut attracted generous bids.
Nia’s father, Terry Porter, unexpectedly lost his prized goatee while the scissors were wielded by local hairdressers, Cut Above, from Newcastle Emlyn.
Nia’s hair was donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for young children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
“Having listened to a radio programme about childhood cancer, I just had to do something,” she said.
Prizes donated to the auction by locals included peoples professional time, to home-made items, including some elderflower wine.
Martin Lloyd, former headmaster of Ysgol y Preseli, became chief auctioneer of the summer ball; thanks to his and other contributions including Nia Porter’s online campaign which itself raised £1,734, a total of £4,250 was raised for Cardigan Cancer Care - over double what was raised last year.
