AN EXCITING new sports arena is one step closer for Tywyn residents.

Town councillor Day Wyre recently proposed a ‘Pump Park’ for the town, an undulating looping track for mountain bikers to race on.

The track is due to be sited next to the town’s skate park.

Cllr Wyre has recently visited local schoolchildren to get their thoughts on the proposal and was greeted with great enthusiasm.

There was only one complaint from a Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn pupil from Dolgellau, who “wished the park could be located closer to her own home”.

It has been decided the initiative will be handled by the town council as it will be able to access grants that other community groups may not be eligible to receive, and the council is also entitled to reduced rates when submitting planning applications.

The proposed site is also on trust land, the Cambrian Road Recreation Ground, which will be easier for the Tywyn council to deal with.

The Bro Dysynni Leisure Association has also pledged to gift its remaining resources to help develop the pump park.

The council is now looking to assemble a committee to progress with the project.
