THE MARCH meeting took the form of a ‘Swper Cawl’ on St David’s Day.A warm welcome was extended to eight guests from Pumsaint Merched y Wawr; Beti Williams, Pumsaint Hall caretaker; visitors Lillian and Rhoslyn; and all members. Cofia’n Gwlad was sung to open the evening.
An apology was received from Nellie Williams, who had sent a card wishing the group an enjoyable evening and a donation to funds.
Members had adorned the hall with daffodils and provided cawl and apple crumble.The 2015 scrapbook, which had placed second in the county scrapbook competition section for institutes with less than 30 members, was on display as well as the 1965 winning Scrapbook in Welsh.Maggy G had compiled a short quiz based on St David.Ray Davies from Merched y Wawr impressively answered all questions correctly. The WI member with most correct answers was Jo Graham Liron.Maggie Walters congratulated Menna Williams, who is now a member of 50 years, before the group enjoyed a cake to mark the occasion and Maggie was presented with a bouquet of flowers. The evening closed with the singing of Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.Ray Davies, who is the president of Pumsaint Merched y Wawr, gave a very appreciative vote of thanks.A short meeting then followed after Kathryn had circulated and highlighted the monthly letter and minutes of the February meeting, which were duly signed as correct.Nine members said they would attend the group meeting in Llangadog later that month and tickets were given to members who had booked to go to the county fashion show.Along with the members, guest Diane Bookham was welcomed to the April meeting when Richard Keen brought his ukeleles.He taught some chords and a fun evening was had by all with much laughter ensuing as they played and sang along – not always in the right key!Four members brought their homemade red roses and Kathryn said she would take them in for the Craft and Brecon Cup Day being held at Q E High School in Carmarthen.Anne B and Sylvia provided refreshments and the competition winner for the most words from ‘George Formby’ was Helen Brooks.Members were reminded of the Pumsaint Show on 2 May and to save goods for the car boot sale on 30 May.Lesley Cutler will speak and give a demonstration on pearl threading and knotting at the next meeting on 3 May at 7.30pm.For details, contact Bet on 01558 650508.
