AN ABERDYFI farmer has enjoyed a fruitful year with her horse after spending “every spare second” either training and competing with her.

Rachel Davies, who works fulltime in the accounts department at Rachel’s Dairy in Aberystwyth, recently won a slew of awards with her four-year-old Welsh Cob Dyffryngwy Siwan aka Pwds.

Rachel explained: “I bought Pwds from the Brightwells October Cob Sales in 2015.

“She was an untouched four-year-old Welsh Cob who is by the late Geler Dago. I bought her to breed from as she was the last filly by Geler Dago and she looks identical to our very successful homebred Cob Aberdyfi Rebel – also by Dago.

“I decided to break her in to ride and have some fun with her before breeding from her.

“In 2017 we had our first full competition season and she went beyond all expectations and won in many disciplines.

“Our highlights included Supreme Champion at Pilleth Show, Champion M&M Merioneth County Show, Champion Novice Ridden at SWPA Championship Show.

“We entered the Welsh Pony and Cob Society performance awards which is a national championship where points are collected throughout the season.

“We finished eighth in our section and were the winners of the Brightwells Trophy for the sales graduate accruing the most points through the year.

“Our aim next year is to contest the Horse of the Year Show qualifiers. Every spare second I get is spent competing and training the horse.”

“I am also training for the Cardiff Half Marathon for 2018 and raising money for Macmillan,” she added.
