I am writing in to express my horror at the article about the horrific racism Rosedona Williams suffered when she was on a train heading towards Aberystwyth recently.
It is disgusting what happened and I do hope the perpetrators will face the full force of the law. There is no tolerance to any form of racism.
My wife is Asian and she received online racist abuse recently, which has affected her mental health in a terrible way. This is not the first time she has suffered racism. The scars never go away. There have also been other incidents recently in and around Aberystwyth where people have suffered racism. We may have a tendency of thinking that “these kind of things don’t happen in Aberystwyth” but it does unfortunately, and we as a community should be aware of that.
Aberystwyth is a loving, caring community which I am proud to call my home, but there have been racist incidents in the area recently. The racists are in a small minority yes, but they can still create so much damage to people, as we have seen.
That is why an event will be held on Saturday, 26 June, at 4pm at the Castle Grounds (next to the playground) by ‘Aberystwyth Together – Say No to Racism’ to support and stand together in love, compassion and solidarity with those victims of these horrendous attacks.
All anti-racists are welcome.
We will be strictly adhering to Covid rules, which include social distancing. We will also ask people to wear masks.
