Madam,
I have read with interest the recent letters printed in the Cambrian News concerning the possible reopening of the railway from Aberystwyth to Carmarthen.
David Kirby sets out his analysis on 6 December and Sion Griffiths writes on 20 December.
I think we must consider that the population is increasing and we have more cars than ever before on our roads, which makes the roads overcrowded and dangerous and so on. So I think the railway from Aberystwyth to Carmarthen will take some of the strains and pressures off roads in Ceredigion as people decide to use the train instead of the car.
Also we must consider climate change and how that will impact our lives in the future.
Just recently we had a record amount of rainfall on 13 October and the Co-op shop in Lampeter had to close and the roads were flooded very badly across west Wales which made it very difficult for people to get about.
A new railway between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen could be a vital service.
However much the railway costs, £500 million or £1.5 billion, I think it will help regenerate our way of life in west Wales.
Yours etc, Jamie Davies, Maes y Felin, Lampeter.
