A RAMBLING group from Llanllwni supported the British Heart Foundation Cymru lifesaving research by taking part in a 26.2-mile walk in the local area.

The Talardd Rambler group, who meet in the Talardd Arms in Llanllwni each week, raised a total of £3,450 for BHF Cymru.

They also held a raffle and an auction of prizes after the sponsored walk, which were donated by local people and organisations, and the Talardd Arms who hold a monthly quiz also decided to donate the funds raised from their quiz and raffle to BHF Cymru.

Each day in Wales, 25 people lose their lives to cardiovascular disease. Thanks to the public’s generosity, BHF Cymru is funding pioneering research, central to discovering vital treatments.

One of the members of the ramblers, Steve Glasson, knows the importance of BHF as he underwent heart surgery last summer.

Steve said: “I underwent a triple bypass last year and would like to give something back to the BHF for all their help and support. I’m living an active life and enjoyed taking part in the walking challenge.

“We would like to say a massive thanks to everyone who sponsored us, donated gifts, walked with us and a special thanks to the Talardd, Llanllwni, for their support.”

The BHF have a Justwalk challenge, and doing your own sponsored walk is an easy way to raise money for the charity.

Jayne Lewis, BHF fundraising manager for south west Wales, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to the Talardd Ramblers and the local community of Llanllwni for all their help and support.

“Too many lives are lost in Wales each year, and we’re determined to do everything we can to protect more families from this devastation. Around 375,000 people across Wales this month are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease.

“Thanks to the local groups and organisations in the area we’ll be able to fund even more research into these conditions.”
