AN appeal for information about this invalid carriage has led straight to the Cambrian News.
Roland Malcolm appealed to Timewatch readers for information about this vehicle, and a number of people have been in touch.
Mr Malcolm said: “I acquired this carriage about 18 months ago and it has now been mechanically recommissioned, registered with its original number and is back on the road doing what its manufacturer designed it for.
“It was originally registered to Emrys Williams of 48 Portland Street, Aberystwyth on 7 July 1939 as a Murphy Invalid Carriage, registration number EJ 6342.
“I am trying to find as much of the carriage’s history as I can."
Delyth Jones said: “I remember him in the carriage. Either he or his brother wrote a weekly article in the Cambrian News called ‘Wireless Whispers by Peter’. I am a descendant of an old Aberystwyth family.”
Elwyn Jones of Aberystwyth said: “The owner was a columnist for the Cambrian News. He wrote ‘Wireless Whispers’.
“He travelled around the town in the invalid carriage. I saw him quite often on the prom, talking to people.”
Former Cambrian News employee, Howard Jones, agrees. Mr Jones, who now lives in Australia, said: “I remember Emrys Williams driving this vehicle. He wrote the ‘Wireless Whispers’ column in the Cambrian News for many years under the pseudonym ‘Peter’."
Do you remember Mr Williams? If you do, please write to Julie McNicholls Vale at Timewatch, Cambrian News, 7 Aberystwyth Science Park, SY23 3AH or email her at [email protected]
