More than 100 of the world’s top cyclists will take to the roads and hills of west and north Wales tomorrow for Stage 4 of the Tour of Britain.
Starting in Aberaeron at 10.30am, the Stage Four of the Tour of Britain, will see the cyclists take on spectacular scenery as they head 130 miles north, finishing later that day atop the Great Orme in Llandudno.
The route will take the riders along the A487 towards Aberystwyth at around 11.15am, up Penglais Hill then a detour to Borth after Bow Street at around 11.30am
The cyclists are expected in Machynlleth at around midday before heading to Dolgellau via Corris then west to Barmouth.
The route will then travel up the coast road towards Llanbedr before heading back inland towards Maentwrog then will wind its way north east through Llanrwst and Conwy before finishing on the Great Orme in Llandudno sometime after 3pm.
No spectators will be allowed to watch the start of the race in Aberaeron but can support the cyclists along the route.
Ceredigion County Council said the race is “an opportunity to showcase the beautiful scenery Ceredigion has to offer; from our rolling hills to our stunning coastline”.
But council officers have said the start of the stage will be closed off to spectators amid coronavirus fears.
“Ceredigion County Council, in collaboration with the Tour of Britain organisers, are maintaining public safety and Aberaeron will be a closed stage start; spectators will not be allowed at the start of the fourth stage location,” a spokesperson said.
“Nevertheless, spectators can continue to support the event along the route while being mindful of social distancing and practice road safety as a pedestrian, cyclist and fan.
“Fans can also enjoy watching the event from the comfort of their own home as it will be televised.”
