CEREDIGION youth service representatives have told councillors that Lampeter Youth Club has not closed and is experiencing “10 times” higher attendances of young people than before.
It was announced in February that the youth club, which was held in a portable building in the grounds of Lampeter secondary school, had closed without warning, prompting Lampeter Town Council to write to Ceredigion Youth Services seeking information.
Youth service representatives Elen James and Lowri Evans were present at a meeting of full council on Thursday, 29 October, where they made a presentation about their work and answered questions about the provision in Lampeter.
Mrs James said the club hasn’t closed, but has relocated due to a slump in young people attending, and is now operated through the school.
She said: “The doors of the club haven’t closed, but have moved to a location on the site of the school at their request.
“On average, across the whole year, there were five and a half young people attending the club, therefore we weren’t meeting the needs of the young people.
“There are 10 times more young people attending now.”
