Editor,
Can I please, through your Letters Page, thank the following people and organisations for making 2019s Remembrance Sunday the success it was?
Firstly the parade - thanks to all who participated, you were brilliant. A special thanks to Aberystwyth Town Band, the three cadets associations, UOTC and my comrade in arms Gareth Pugh for ensuring everybody was where they were supposed to be, especially at the wreath-laying. To the hundreds upon hundreds of public lining the streets and at the War Memorial, your encouragement and desire to be part of this special day was truly uplifting.
To the vicar Mark Ansell, of St Michael’s Church and his staff, who were all so accommodating, a huge thank you. A really special thanks to the pupils and staff of Penglais and Penweddig schools, you made the theme of ‘evacuees’ come to life. Thanks also to Dr Sian Nicholas, Aberystwyth University, and the project team at the National Library of Wales for compiling the social history project on evacuees.
A very special thanks to Côr Ger y Lli under the direction of Gregory Vearey-Roberts your harmonies, were truly amazing and a pleasure to listen to.
Finally, a big thanks to my fellow RBL comrades who work so hard alongside me at this time of Remembrance, your willingness and dedication is second to none.
Paul Hinge, Aberystwyth RBL Remembrance Parade and Service co-ordinator, and Ceredigion County Council’s Armed Forces Champion
