A RESCUE dog who was left blind through neglect has regained his eyesight in time for Christmas after kind donors helped pay for eye surgery.

It was reported in the Cambrian News last month that Llanon businesswoman Lucy Morgan-Agate wished to thank people for their kindness after she raised £2,500 in order to pay for Bertie, a blind schnauzer she rehomed after he was rescued in a “terrible state”, to have surgery on his eyes.

After seeing an advert on social media looking for a new home for Bertie, who vets believe is between seven and nine-years-old, Lucy took him in and rehabilitated him.

Despite Bertie’s hair growing back and his sores healing, he was left blind, and vets could not say with certainty whether he was born without sight or whether it was through neglect.

But now, Lucy said Bertie is “so happy” after surgeons in Bristol were able to give him the greatest Christmas present he could wish for — his eyesight.

“He’s absolutely brilliant - he can see now, so he has been playing with other dogs,” Lucy told the Cambrian News.

“Surgery was a bit awkward. One of his lenses had turned into water, and the other one was quite hard.

“But he came through it and he is really good now.”
