COUNCIL chiefs in Ceredigion are considering collecting general household rubbish once every three weeks and introducing a glass collection service.

And a limit may be placed on the number of black bin bags allowed to be collected if recycling rates, amongst the highest in Wales, don’t further increase.

The proposals will go before a scrutiny committee meeting on 5 October, with a recommendation for the future of services expected to go before the council’s Cabinet towards the end of November.

Consultants for the council have admitted that changes to the black bin bag collections are likely to be controversial with collections proposed to be made every three weeks instead of fortnightly.

But a council working group has ruled out another suggestion that there could also be a restriction on how many black bags are allowed to be put out by households.

Under the proposal supported by the councillor working group, there would be weekly collections for the current clear bag recycling bags and food waste, while there would be three-weekly collections for black bag waste and a new glass collection introduced.

That will be considered by members of the Thriving Communities Scrutiny Committee on 5 October with a recommendation then expected to go before the Cabinet for a decision in November.
