Gwynedd Council is urging residents to stay safe this Bonfire Night.

Due to the Firebreak lockdown, more people might be thinking of having a firework display at home this year.

However the council’s Public Protection Service, together with the North Wales Fire & Rescue Service, is urging Gwynedd residents to celebrate in the safest way possible.

Current restrictions mean that the usual organised displays, like so many other events, are not permitted.

The message is that if you are thinking of having a fireworks display in your garden, always follow the firework code.

“It is important that everyone follow the Welsh Government advice,” a council spokesperson said.

“Remember that only people from your own household are allowed to enjoy the display with you.

“Please be mindful and respectful to your neighbours, especially the elderly and others who may not wish to participate in these celebrations and of course pets.

“Everyone must think how they can keep Gwynedd and Wales safe and not spread coronavirus.”

They added: “Fireworks can be dangerous and in combination with the added risks of coronavirus, you need to think very carefully before purchasing this year.

“Fireworks should only ever be purchased from licensed retailers and should always carry a CE mark.

“Beware of door-to-door sellers or private sales via social media platforms such as Facebook, who may be taking advantage of the current restrictions – the fireworks may not be up to the stringent product safety standards.”
