A “RAILWAY line for everyone” is being brought back in to service between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Trawsfynydd.
Following a protracted campaign that has been running for years, the eight-mile stretch between the two Meirionnydd communities will incorporate a steam railway which will wind its way through the stunning scenery of the Welsh Uplands and may even be open by next summer.
It has been a labour of love for Colin Dale, a railway enthusiast who has been attempting to reopen the line for many years and driving force behind the new project,
“The last train ran in 1998, but the line is still very much intact,” said Mr Dale.
“We’re very lucky in that respect, most historic railways spend a huge amount laying down track but we’ve just got to tidy up what we’ve already got – not that that isn’t a huge job in itself! We’re lucky to have what we do though.
“This is something I’ve battled for since 2009, it’s been a long road with plenty of thorough discussion to get to this point.
“We’re hoping to have a small portion of the track open by Christmas and it would be lovely to have some sort of Christmas Grotto up and running by then, that would be a dream come true."
