A TREMADOG opera star is set to star in a new television series which sees him get to know some of Wales’ most famous singers.

In the new series Deuawdau Rhys Meirion, viewers will see the opera star perform duets with some well-known faces in a variety of musical styles, from jazz to folk to pop.

In the first programme in the series, Rhys takes a trip to Cardiff to the house of singer and composer Huw Chiswell and performs one of Huw’s classics with him, Rhoddion Prin, amongst other songs.

Rhys said: “When someone goes through a difficult and challenging time, as we all do in life, music can be an incredible support.

“I’ve listened to Rhoddion Prin in the past and the words, especially in the final verse, are very emotional.

“Having lost my sister and my mum over the past few years, I have certainly derived strength from my children. I could really relate to the song and the words.”

A CD with duets from the series will be released in December 2016.

Deuawdau Rhys Meirion begins on Friday, 23 September at 9.30pm on S4C.
