Drivers are being warned to take extra care on the roads as the stormy weather continues.

Gwynedd Council has issued the warning, asking people to "leave plenty of time", "drive to the conditions" and "respect" warning signs.

The advice comes after flooding yesterday led to the closure of the A499 between Pwllheli and Llanbedrog. Gwynedd Council has confirmed that the A499 remains closed.

Signs were put in place to divert traffic through Rhydyclafdy.

A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said today: "The stormy weather means that driving conditions are very challenging in some areas, especially in parts of Dwyfor at present. If you need to travel, leave plenty of time and drive to the conditions. If a sign indicates that a road is closed, please respect the warning and follow signs for an alternative route."

The Met Office issued a weather warning on Tuesday.

The yellow was issued for West Wales, from midnight on Thursday to the end of today (Friday), with between 40-60mm of rain expected in most areas.

120mm of rain is likely on higher ground with as much as 160mm possible over Snowdonia.

The Met Office said: “Outbreaks of heavy rain are expected to become persistent for periods causing impacts during Thursday and Friday.

“Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely.

“Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely.”
