May I thank the 4,394 people who cast their vote for me. It has been a true privilege to campaign across the length and breadth of Dwyfor Meirionnydd. It is a truly unique part of Wales and I shall never forget this experience.

Despite the 39 per cent increase in the ballots cast for us on five years ago, we of course would have liked it to be far more, but the political life is never easy and everyone who pursues that road will at some point experience disappointment and dejection.

It was a robust campaign but it was always rooted in ideas and policies. It has never been personal.Sitting county councillors have expressed their delight they will not have to work with me. I find that tone to be regrettable, and it is not the collegiate approach to politics we so desperately need in Wales.

I would like to pay tribute to Mabon ap Gwynfor, your new MS.He is a good man whose personal and family values stand him in good stead for public office. The Conservatives are not going away in Dwyfor Meirionnydd. Our vote share continues to increase. We will be fielding candidates for Gwynedd County Council Elections, with a promise to work tirelessly for our local communities.
