A ROW has broken out over grass cutting in Machynlleth.
It was reported in the Cambrian News last week that bereaved relatives were being forced to cut grass and remove weeds from around gravestones in Machynlleth cemetery due to a lack of regular maintenance.
And Cllr Michael Williams has this week hit out at Powys County Council, claiming that grass is not being cut elsewhere in the town by an appointed contractor.
In particular, Cllr Williams said the worst areas were Parc Bach, near the junction between Forge Road and Heol Maengwyn, Y Dalar, the Bryn-y-Gôg estate, Tregarth, and two lanes, one between Newtown Road and Maes Newydd, and another between Newtown Road and the Cae Crwn estate.
“There are areas of grass which haven’t been cut at all this year and areas which have been cut just the once,” Cllr Williams told the Cambrian News.
In an email sent to councillors last week, Cllr John Brunt, Cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I have been made aware that there have been a significant number of complaints from members in relation to grass cutting across the county.
“As a result, officers have been liaising with our main contractor."
