RUGBY presenters have thanked Dolgellau Rugby Club for helping raise £200 towards a special charity.

S4C has now raised £1,400 for a rugby charity which supports injured players and their families. The money was raised for the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust through public events and fund-raising efforts by the channel’s staff during the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

As part of the fund-raising, a training session led by former Wales internationals was held at various clubs across the country, including Dolgellau, which managed to raise £200 during their session.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust was chairman Dennis Gethin, who is also president of the WRU. Dennis Gethin said: “The trust are extremely grateful for the marvellous donation S4C are giving to the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust to aid those rugby players who have suffered catastrophic injuries whilst playing the game they love. “The trust was set up to improve the quality of life for those players and their families, and they are without doubt a remarkable group of people and extremely supportive of Welsh rugby.”

Ian Jones, S4C chief executive said: “On behalf of all the staff at S4C, we are extremely proud to present this cheque to the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust. “It is a very worthy cause, and the work they do to support injured players and their families is to be admired. “The Rugby World Cup was a major event for S4C in 2015 and it’s a source of great pride that we could support the game by raising money for such a good cause.”
