LAMPETER-BASED running team Marlene’s Marvels have presented a cheque for nearly £4,000 to Wales Air Ambulance after completing October’s Cardiff Half Marathon.

The UWTSD group – Louise Harris, Helen Thomas, Mel Thomas, Marlene Tobias and Melanie Lawlor-Fellowes – had been training with rugby star Gareth Thomas as part of his 100-strong Alfie’s Angels.

“It was a fantastic event and being involved with Alfie and the Alfie’s Angels was a wonderful experience,” said Louise.

“Four of us – Melanie Lawlor-Fellowes was unable to attend – then met with Alfie at his local Wales Air Ambulance shop in Adare Street in Bridgend to present the cheque.

“Marlene’s Marvels raised an amazing £3,914.50 which will help to fund a number of potential lifesaving missions for the Wales Air Ambulance.

“The shop manager, Sandra John, was presented with the cheque by Alfie on behalf of Marlene’s Marvels.

“Sandra thanked us for our efforts in the half-marathon and for raising such an amazing amount of money for the charity.

“A number of the volunteers were also at the cheque presentation and said they were very grateful for the fundraising work of Marlene’s Marvels.”
