Re: Cllr Paul Hinge’s complaint about hospital staff using small car park. Although I sympathise with any patients and their families who are attending the hospital, there is another issue to highlight in this case.
Most staff who work at the hospital make every effort to park outside the hospital car parks.
Many used to use the car park designed for the purpose on Clarach road. However, management cut the provision of bus services for staff from the car park to the hospital.
I would have thought that a former chairperson of Hywel Dda Health Board would understand that hospital staff work unsociable shifts, often working 13-hour shifts, with unpaid breaks, and frequently working above and beyond their shift times to support and care for the patients visiting the hospital.
Without their dedication, many patients would not receive the care they need at all. Yet they are not considered worthy of the provision of transport from the hospital to the car park late at night, or early in the morning!
Surely their health and wellbeing and safety should also be considered.
I would not expect them to walk unescorted from the hospital up Penglais hill to their cars at such unearthly hours, especially after often gruelling and difficult shifts.
Likewise many start work early in the morning and who knows who might be lurking about when they are expected to take that long walk from the car park to the hospital.
